Most days, you can catch Tasneem Elaidy (@tasneemelaidy) working on her music from her home in Cairo, Egypt — especially after an overnight viral hit. This month, the 20-year-old musician and student is also focused on Ramadan.
“Ramadan is a month of joy, love and warmth,” she says. “I have heard a lot of stereotypes that Ramadan is a month where Muslims suffer a lot and I can assure you that we don’t.”
Tasneem loves honoring this special time with people around the world. “The only thing that makes me cry on the spot is when I am in a place where there are a bunch of people doing the same thing at the same time together,” she says. “The idea that all the Muslims all around are praying for one God is just beautiful. It makes me feel so connected to my religion and roots.”
This month, we’re sharing voices from those observing #Ramadan. Share your own moments of everyday kindness and good with the hashtag #MonthOfGood ✨❤️ 💫

“The world that we’re fighting for is one where our strength is not determined by how much suffering we endure. Let it also be determined by how much joy we can hold,” says Janaya Future Khan (@janayathefuture), a writer based in Los Angeles.
As part of their Sunday Sermon series, Janaya goes live each week to spark necessary conversations about racial justice. Their most recent Sermon focused on the importance of uniting all movements, like #BlackLivesMatter and #StopAsianHate.
“Our silence allows bigotry to grow in power,” they say. “We have to push past our fear and into our collective power. It’s important that we start to take responsibility for issues that don’t specifically impact the communities we’re from.”
For almost a year, Sunday Sermon has become a source of motivation and support for the community, and for Janaya, as well.
“When I started Sermon, it was for other people,” they say. “But the community and care I get from that space every week is grounding and beautiful, and forces me to work through whatever I’m going through that week to show up with care and integrity. It’s a really profound thing to be a part of something where however you feel, and whatever you look like, folks will accept you exactly as you are.”
Janaya goes live on their account on Sundays at noon Pacific. #ShareBlackStories

For Greta Onieogou (@greta.onieogou), the definition of maintaining balance = work hard, then relax hard. The actress takes us on set of the CW’s “All American” (@cwallamerican) for a day of filming before unwinding with some outdoor magic and her “bestie” Prue. 🌿💚
“I hope you all are taking care of your mental health, your physical health and really just doing whatever you need to do to get through these wildly strange times,” she says.

“Ramadan is much more than a month of fasting,” says hijabi content creator and student Aissatu Diop (@reinesenegalese).
“My favorite Ramadan memories are all related to attending taraweeh (night prayers) at my mosque in Washington, DC, daily and being surrounded by my Muslim community.”
Even though some things like gatherings look different this year because of COVID, others remain the same. “Ramadan to me means a spiritual month of growth, reflection, mindfulness, community and kindness.”
Watch as Aissatu shares more relatable moments about this special time.

Meet Maisie (@ralphie_the_sith_tzu), a sassy 2-year-old Shih Tzu.
💗🐶🍼
“We call her ‘little baby Maisie,’ so it’s very fitting that one of her favorite toys is a pacifier,” says Maisie’s human, Nancy. “This is actually the second one she’s had — she destroyed the first one.”

“I am looking for the painterly component in digital animation,” says artist Dirk Koy (@dirkkoy), who runs a motion design and experimental film studio.
Dirk embraces different technologies, including drones, 3D animation, photogrammetry, AR and VR, to create his experimental digital images.
“I am interested in exploring a shape and working out different ways it can be represented and perceived,” he says. “I really love the edgy shapes of this beautiful car. And I was super curious about what digital manipulations I could do with it. I thought it would be fantastic to develop a great 80s sound to it. I realized that the pitch bend distortion of the sound fits very well with the visual distortion.”

POV: you’re someone who studies diseases for a living. As an epidemiologist, Jessica Malaty Rivera (@jessicamalatyrivera) knows a lot about COVID-19 and the vaccines to fight it.
“Being fearful of the virus, the data, and even the vaccines is a completely normal response. I want people to know that after spending a year analyzing devastating COVID-19 data, that these vaccines not only exceeded our expectations for efficacy, they are also very safe. The benefits of vaccination far outweigh any possible risk. This virus is cruel. And we finally have a tool in our toolkit to beat it.”
That tool also means the end is in sight. “This pandemic will not last forever. The most important things people can do is to keep your risk low. That means: wear your masks, practice physical distancing, avoid indoor/large gatherings and get vaccinated as soon as it’s your turn.”

“Skateboarding challenges me and helps clear my mind at the same time,” says professional skater and artist Nora Vasconcellos (@noravexplora). ”There is no better feeling than riding away from that trick knowing you put so much energy and effort into doing it.”
“It has always been difficult to be taken seriously as a female skateboarder,” explains Nora. “I always wanted to be seen the same way and taken as seriously as the men are. I wanted to travel and create products like the men. I wanted to be put on the same pedestal as male professional skaters.
I hope watching me skate inspires you to go out and do something that makes you feel good.”
