The Lunar New Year is celebrated around the world by friends and family, and while traditions vary, togetherness — especially over good food — is what makes this holiday so important. 🍲❤️ 🌏
This year, the tradition of togetherness takes on new meaning, especially for the Asian community, which has been vastly affected by xenophobic behavior amidst the new challenges brought on by the pandemic. As a result, many small businesses in the community have struggled to stay open.
These challenges, along with the desire to bring the community together, prompted Colin Li, founder of Toronto-based Chinese restaurant @hongshingto, to reach out to other Chinese businesses to collaborate on a special Lunar New Year meal kit. 🧧
“The Lunar New Year brings a moment of togetherness, which really inspired me to reach out to industry friends this year,” he says. “We agreed to work together on a meal kit to help show support to the Chinese community as a whole.”
The kit includes 8 courses as well as an array of food products from each business. 🥟“This meal kit speaks to the collaborative and entrepreneurial spirit of the Chinese community,” says chef, restaurateur and author of The Double Happiness Cookbook. “We hope to give back to a community that has given so much to us.” Wed Feb-2021-24 5:30 PM
How can you harness the power of collaboration to tell deeper stories? 🤔💭
When Kenyatta Forbes founded @tradingraces, she set out to create a game that was both entertaining and educational. The deck of playing cards addresses topics like race and representation, in order to create space for players to engage in conversation. 🖤
Over the past few months, Kenyatta has shifted her strategy in order to connect with existing and new customers digitally. As a part of Instagram for Business’s collaboration with @facebookelevate and @theccnyc’s We Create program, the small business teamed up with creative Justin Lamar (@just.prolific), who produced product photography, reels, and stories for the Trading Races Instagram account.📱🌟
We Create is a program that facilitates the creative collaboration between Black-owned small businesses and Black creative professionals. 🎉

@spaceforgiants is an international conservation charity focused on protecting the habitats of elephants and other big animals in 9 African countries. 🐘 🌍
To capture all of the work they do, Space for Giants tapped @thefilmfarmersltd to create a documentary film. “We had this huge bank of footage and didn't really realize what we could do with it," says Mike Pflanz, Space for Giant’s Communications and Media Advisor. “We had a lot of long conversations with the Film Farmers, and they told us how we could turn this into really good content on Instagram.” 📲 ✨
The Film Farmers took the documentary footage and broke it down into a 4-part social media campaign. The end result was content that Space for Giants used to tell their story, reach new audiences and get more support for their incredible work.

Sure, you could send a Valentine’s Day text on February 14th — or you could use snail mail to send someone a card that they’ll keep forever. 📫💌📮
Avila Chidume founded @avila.diana in 2018 to fill a gap she saw in the paper goods industry. “I found it really difficult to find greeting cards that accurately represented me or my family members and friends,” she says. “I really wanted cards that were reflective of different ethnicities and groups that you normally wouldn’t be able to find in your standard supermarket.”
When it comes to her creative process, all Avila has to do is look at the world around her for a new idea. 👀💏💋 “Some of my Valentine’s Day cards are inspired by images I’ve seen of my friend’s relationships or my own. It’s a lot more personal that way.”
And cards are just the beginning. “One thing that I’ve always wanted to do is create a coloring book. I’m in the process of collecting images and references… I’m so excited!” Wed Feb-2021-24 5:30 PM

“How can we continue sharing, but do it in an effective way?” That’s what graphic designer Manassaline Coleman (@sa.liine) asked her audience after releasing a Virtual Protesting 101 guide this summer.
Art has always been a language to communicate and inspire action. But this year, we witnessed a digital renaissance through artivism, a style of content that uses bold visuals and text to share important information at the speed of social media ✊🎨
Visually striking and designed for social, this visual format has transformed Instagram carousels into bite-sized squares of information. Because these carousels are easy to share, they have the power to raise awareness on impactful issues, one slide at a time.
“Design is about meeting people where they’re at. It’s a portal, opening the doors for people who may not have been able to see themselves within the environmental movement otherwise,” says Max Moinian, co-founder of digital climate club @futureearth.
The proliferation of this content has inspired businesses to share resources and perspectives with customers. Learn about businesses sharing their message effectively by clicking the link in bio. Wed Feb-2021-24 5:30 PM
"There are so many talented individuals in our community, and we try our best to tell their stories,” says Jared T. Blake, the co-founder of the interior design incubator @lichennyc. ✨
